The work was inspired by the Gaelic Psalm Singing in Northern Scotland, in which a ‘precentor’ leads a choir.

John Bisset and Ivor Kallin are the precentors, with a choir of themselves.

The precentors alternate between solo improvisations – Ivor’s being based on Gaelic and Yiddish, John’s on Latin Christian Plainsong– and leading the choir. The Christian and Jewish elements gradually integrate.
