mindfulness of pianoplaying
written for jnanavaca - meditation teacher and all round saint - as a ‘first piece at the piano’
four movements each consisting of ten notes on a circular stave.
if your mind wanders, begin again at the top.
if you complete a cycle, begin again.
I strike each note in time with the end of your out-breath.
II strike each note in time with the beginning of your in-breath.
III strike each note in the time of your breathing - aware of the full expansion of each
note.
IV insert each note into the gap between your in-breath and out-breath.
